THE IONIAN AFFAIR

Horia Mihail is one of the most charismatic and active figures on the Romanian musical scene today, renowned for his interpretative refinement, artistic versatility and visionary cultural initiatives. He made his debut at the age of ten in his native Brasov, in a performance that took place under the attentive eye of Radu Lupu, an encounter that would become a lasting artistic reference in his development.

Throughout his career, Horia Mihail has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in Romania and abroad, collaborating with distinguished conductors and performers including John Williams, Cristian Mandeal, Emil Simon, Gabriel Croitoru, Roman Totenberg, Ion Bogdan Stefanescu, Nathaniel Rosen and Ruxandra Donose. His performances have been praised for their rhythmic subtlety, expressive clarity and refined sense of sound color.

One of his landmark initiatives is The Traveling Piano, a flagship project that has surpassed 15 editions and has brought high-level classical music to a wide range of communities. Since 2025, Horia Mihail has been a member of the piano faculty at the National University of Music Bucharest and is frequently invited to serve on the juries of important international competitions. He currently serves as Founder and Festival President of TWIN EYES, the pilot event of THE IONIAN AFFAIR, while continuing to build a rich career as a performer, educator and ambassador of authentic cultural dialogue.

Georgia Lali brings to THE IONIAN AFFAIR a rare combination of legal expertise, European institutional experience and a deep personal attachment to Greece. Trained at Athens Law School and holding a DEA in European Law from the University of Strasbourg, she built a distinguished career within the European Commission, where she worked from 1981 until December 2016.

Over more than three decades of public service, Georgia Lali held senior responsibilities across several strategic fields. She was a member of Vasso Papandreou's cabinet and later served as Director in areas including maritime transport, consumer goods, automotive, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, innovation, food, biotechnology and energy. Her work placed her at the intersection of European policy, economic development and institutional cooperation.

From September 2011 to September 2015, she led the Athens office of the Task Force for Greece, assisting the Greek authorities during the implementation of the memoranda imposed by the Troika in the years of the financial crisis. She later spent a year at New York University as a fellow in European Studies. Earlier in her career, from December 2001 to June 2004, she served as President, and for one year also CEO, of Ktimatologio AE, the Greek company responsible for establishing the national Land Register.

Today she lives between Brussels and Finikounda, carrying a lasting love for the region, its landscape and its music.

Born and raised in Brasov, in the very heart of Romania, Andrei Pena has carried his formation in history at the University of Bucharest into more than three decades of work in journalism and communications. He has served as publisher of several Romanian business publications, including Money Express, New Money, Constructiv and Dialog Textil, and is the editor of the cultural guide Culturama.

He is also responsible for communications in Romania and the Republic of Moldova for Cochlear Ltd., the Australian company that invented the cochlear implant. In this role, he works closely with parent and patient associations, NGOs, physicians, speech therapists and psychologists involved in auditory rehabilitation, connecting medical innovation with the communities and professionals who make recovery possible.

His enduring passion remains history in all its dimensions. In Romania, he published the art history series Great Painters (Mari Pictori), dedicated to the lives and works of the world's most renowned artists, and served as editorial and historical consultant for The Newspapers of Greater Romania (Ziarele Romaniei Mari), a collection of historical magazines that explores Romania's interwar history through the perspective, and the lens, of newspapers from that era.

Born and raised in Foinikounda, Messinia, Nikos Tsonis belongs deeply to the landscape, rhythm and hospitality of the Ionian coast. At thirty-two, he brings together studies in management and administration with culinary training, placing both at the service of a family business rooted in one of Greece's most loved coastal communities.

Nikos Tsonis continues the tradition at Elena, one of the best-known restaurants in the region, with more than forty-five years of uninterrupted presence. Nikos grew up there within the living practice of Greek filoxenia, a tradition of hospitality that reaches back more than 3,000 years and has allowed him to meet remarkable people from all over the world.

His personal world is shaped by nature, animals and art. For Nikos Tsonis, art is not confined to galleries or stages; it is present in the land, in human encounters and in the inner life of people. This belief gives his presence within THE IONIAN AFFAIR a grounded local sensibility, open to beauty wherever it appears.

Born and raised in Brasov, Romania, Andrei Popa studied economics and industrial design before finding his way into music and video production, guided by a long-standing interest in the creative side of things.

His work spans both ends of the craft. From performing live with pop and fusion bands to shooting music videos and documentaries, he moves naturally between the stage and the camera, connecting the technical and creative dimensions of each project.

Andrei Popa brings to THE IONIAN AFFAIR his video production expertise, broad knowledge across many fields and a practical problem-solving mindset that helps ideas keep their shape and momentum.

Mihai Segarceanu serves as Business Consultant and Advisor for THE IONIAN AFFAIR. He is an entrepreneur with over 28 years of experience in the construction industry and the Founder & CEO of Tecton Trust SRL.

Combining strong leadership with a hands-on approach to project delivery, he has built his professional path around trust, precision and long-term partnerships. Driven, reliable and team-oriented, Mihai brings to THE IONIAN AFFAIR a practical mindset, a deep understanding of complex projects, and the ability to turn ambitious ideas into solid, well-executed realities.
